More Than 700 thousand Foreign Tourists Visit Indonesia

August 1, 2022 – The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPK) has recorded 743,21 thousand visits from foreign tourists to Indonesia from January to June 2022.

Head of BPS Margo Yuwono stated that this number is a 929,66 percent increase compared to the year 2021 of the same period.

Yuwono also stated that foreign tourists visiting Indonesia by air are 633,16 thousand. Followed by water with as much as 102,11 thousand visits and by land with 7,939 visits. In June 2022 alone, the number of foreign tourists in Indonesia reached 345,44 thousand people. It has risen up to 1,973,96 percent compared to the number of tourists recorded in June 2021.

“Compared to the month prior, there has also been an increase in the number of foreign tourists going through the main entrance in June 2022, which is 62,69 percent,” Yuwono explained.

With the prolonged Covid-19 in Indonesia, the booster vaccine is mandatory for all international and domestic tourists for all travel as of July 17, 2022. According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Adita Irawati, all foreign tourists might abide by this rule if they plan to visit Indonesia. PCR or Antigen tests are mandatory for all tourists who haven’t got their booster vaccine yet.

Nationalities of Foreign Tourists in Indonesia

According to the nationalities of the tourists, it is recorded that tourists from Australia dominated the number for June 2022. There are around 64,53 thousand foreign tourists, which is 18,68 percent.

Coming in second are tourists from Singapore with 53,02 thousand tourists (15,35 percent), Malaysia with 31,72 thousand tourists (9,18 percent), India with 25,67 thousand tourists, and America with 17,24 thousand tourists (4,99 percent).

Based on the percentage, tourists from Asean countries stay in Indonesia the shortest for 6,87 days. Meanwhile, foreign tourists from the Middle East have the average of staying the longest for 24,38 days.

From their nationalities, the average of foreign tourists staying in Indonesia is the longest is foreign tourists from Russia 62,88 days. While for the shortest stay of 4,48 days is by foreign tourists from Myanmar.
