MRT Jakarta Resumes Normal Operations After Construction Incident

Jakarta, Indonesia – MRT Jakarta operations have resumed as normal after a temporary halt yesterday caused by falling construction material. Thankfully, PT MRT Jakarta confirms there were no fatalities or injuries from the incident.

On Thursday, May 30th, 2024, around 4:45 PM WIB, steel rebar from a construction project at the Attorney General’s Office building collapsed onto the MRT tracks between ASEAN and Blok M stations. This caused a temporary suspension of MRT services.

The incident resulted in delays for commuters, with Transjakarta deploying additional buses on routes intersecting the affected MRT segment. MRT Jakarta worked through the night to clear the debris and ensure the safety of the tracks.

Today, MRT Jakarta resumes operation as normal,” said Ahmad Pratomo, Head of the Corporate Secretary Division of PT MRT Jakarta, in a written statement. He also offered apologies for the inconvenience caused by the incident.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collapse. Hutama Karya, the construction company responsible for the Attorney General’s Office project, is also conducting their own investigation.
