Moslem bin Mohram Husein, a foreigner from Pakistan, was detained by the Central Jakarta Metro Police for carrying out a hypnosis scheme. The 35-year-old Pakistani is suspected of hypnotising the owner of a tiny store in Central Jakarta’s Sawah Besar neighbourhood.

According to Kombes Pol Komarudin, the chief of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, the foreigner from Karachi, Pakistan, stated that this was his first time committing a crime of this nature. Mohram was successful in stealing Rp 6 million through his hypnosis scam.

In a statement to the media on Tuesday, the 13th of June 2023, Komarudin stated that the incident occurred in Sawah Besar and that the suspect was seen on CCTV while in action.

According to Komarudin, Mohram pretended that he wanted to exchange money while carrying out his hypnosis scheme. “The perpetrator said fresh money or exchanged money during the action. Then he revealed to the store owner that there was cash hidden beneath the container of their store,” Komarudin said.

Following the event, the police will work with immigration to verify the Pakistani national’s visa, according to Komarudin. “His visa is for a visit only. While in Indonesia, he says he is selling or trading some goods. We will continue to look into this in conjunction with immigration, contrary to his passport, which indicates that he entered Indonesia in 2021,” Komarudin added.

“The suspect will be charged with theft under Article 362 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison,” Komarudin concluded.

According to Komarudin, Mohram was detained in North Jakarta’s Kelapa Gading District at the French Walk residence, Lyon Garden Tower. The Pakistani was apprehended while hiding in the apartment with his wife and kids.
