Pererenan Bali is on the World’s Coolest Neighborhood List

Share:

Bali is often included in the list of many beautiful places in the world. It was also recently named Asia’s Most Romantic Destination in the 2024 World Travel Awards. But the new nickname for Bali is now more specific to one region.

The Pererenan area, often referred to as the new Canggu, is now included in Time Out’s list of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods. The list is based on neighbourhood insights from a global network of city editors and local experts. First place went to Notre Dame du Mont in France, while second place went to Mers Sultan, Casablanca, Morocco.

Pererenan ranked third on the list. Time Out said that in this area, tourists will find unspoiled beaches, cosy cafes, unique shops, and a relaxed atmosphere, free from noise and traffic.

The 2024 rankings were a result of the media company’s global network of editors and writers, who provided their picks. These were then vetted against criteria including what Time Out calls the ‘unique local flavor’-a factor that Pererenan, with its distinct charm, certainly embodies.

Meanwhile,Time Out describes this place in Bali as “pristine beaches, cosy cafés, eclectic shops, and a certain laidback cool, devoid of noise and traffic.”

Pererenan’s Attraction

No wonder Pererenan is referred to as the next Canggu. For visitors already in the Canggu area, Pererenan can be reached on foot or by motorcycle. The location of Pererenan Beach, which is in the village of the same name, makes it easily accessible from various parts of Bali.

As the area is quite close to the increasingly developed Canggu, many areas have also developed in Pererenan.

The name “Pererenan” comes from the word “reremanan”, which means a place to shelter or rest. This reflects the beach’s original function as a place for sailors and locals to rest.
