PPKM Level 1 Extended in All Regions

August 2, 2022 – To fight the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, leveling Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) have been implemented with varying time limits in the Java-Bali and the other areas. The extension will take place from August 2 to August 15 for the Java-Bali region and it will begin on August 2 and end on September 5 for other areas outside of Java-Bali.

PPKM has been extended again considering the recent condition of active cases showing an increase due to new sub-variants of Omicron known as BA.4 and BA.5. A number of regulations, including those governing houses of worship and offices, have been updated in the most recent PPKM regulations.

All regions, both inside and outside of Java-Bali, were categorized as Level 1 during this PPKM period based on the community transmission indicators used to evaluate local governments in the implementation of PPKM.

According to Safrizal ZA, the Director General of Regional Administration at the Ministry of Home Affairs, the level 1 designation for all of Indonesia was made after considering the opinions of various experts and taking into account the real circumstances in the field. The number of Covid cases did rise, but the critical factor that needs to be considered concurrently is the hospital occupancy rate (Bed Occupancy Rate / BOR), which is still low.

All of these provisions are contained in the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs (Inmendagri) Numbers 38 and 39 of 2022, which were approved by the Minister of Home Affairs M. Tito Karnavian on August 1, 2022.

The regulation in the Ministry of Home Affairs this time has several changes, including those related to the Circular Letter of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Number 7 of 2022 regarding guidelines for the implementation of learning during the pandemic.

The government also subsequently implemented additional entries for foreign tourists (PPLN) were at six airports—Sultan Iskandar Muda, Minangkabau, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II, Adi Sumarno, Syamsudin Noor, and International Airport Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan.
