About Arak

Arak Bali is a fermented alcoholic drink typical of the Island of the Gods of Bali, which is made from essential ingredients of spices. The local raw materials and made traditionally and passed down from generation to generation. Besides being able to warm the body, Balinese Arak is also believed to be able to treat flu, coughs, and fever. 

Making Balinese Arak is carried out through fermentation and distillation of agricultural products containing carbohydrates. Some materials that can be used include the sap of coconut trees, palm trees (aren), and ental trees (lontar). 

Later, the sap will be collected into large barrels. Then given, coconut fiber and then stored for two to three days for the fermentation process. In addition to coconut fiber, farmers also often use bayur or kutat bark. After the fermentation process, the alcohol content of the sap will increase, giving it a non-textured taste. Furthermore, this fermented water is distilled for about 12 hours.
