One of the finest literary events in the world, the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival (often referred to as the Ubud Writers Festival), takes place in the central Bali town of Ubud in October to commemorate what has grown to be Southeast Asia’s premier celebration of words and ideas.

The Origins of Ubud Writers Festival
Australian-born Janet DeNeefe created the Ubud Writers Festival as a therapeutic initiative in reaction to the Bali bombings in 2002. DeNeefe started the festival in 2004, and it has since grown into one of the world’s most renowned literary and creative gatherings. DeNeefe wanted the world to see that Bali could recover from the attacks.
Opportunities for New Writers
A collection of works by up-and-coming Indonesian authors will also be featured, giving tourists a unique look at the country’s language, culture, history, and folklore, which is believed to be a lifetime opportunity for the attendants & the upcoming writer of the country.
Only five minutes from the heart of Ubud town are the major Ubud Writers festival activities, which take place on Jalan Raya Sanggingan. Taman Baca, Indus Restaurant, and Neka Museum are just a few locations where the event is held annually. However, there are a few additional activities planned in and around Ubud. Most classes will be in English, Indonesian, or both languages. In most meetings, translators will be present.
