Manggarai Station has grabbed the attention of commuter line users following an elevator malfunction on platforms 11 and 12, leading towards Bogor. Several videos circulating on the internet depict hundreds of passengers struggling to queue up for the upper platform due to the malfunction.

In one such video posted by @fakta.jakarta on Wednesday, 6th March 2024, around 6 PM, a large crowd of passengers can be seen stranded at Manggarai Station, facing difficulties accessing their intended train platform.

Over the past week, an elevator malfunction occurred on platforms 11 and 12, serving destinations including Depok, Nambo, and Bogor. PT Kereta Api Indonesia’s prolonged response to the issue prompted many passengers to voice their frustrations online.

Passengers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the prolonged resolution of the elevator malfunction at Manggarai Station, resulting in delays in catching subsequent trains and increased commuting time after work.

The damage to public facilities at Manggarai station is significantly impacting passenger mobility rates. Beyond just the elevators, facilities catering to special passengers, such as pregnant women and individuals with disabilities, have also been affected. This situation requires station staff to exert additional efforts to assist disabled passengers in navigating the stairs to reach the upper platform.

According to data from PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia, as of May 2023, 21.551.952 individuals had transited through Manggarai Station. This number is anticipated to rise considerably in 2024 due to the increasing reliance on public transportation for daily activities. Addressing the damage to public facilities is imperative and should be promptly addressed by the Directorate General of Railways within the Ministry of Transportation.

The growing influx of passengers to Manggarai Station necessitates the provision of adequate and integrated public facilities. This ensures that all passengers can enjoy a comfortable, safe, and efficient public transportation experience.
