Russia to Open New Consulate General Office in Bali After Viral New Moscow Canggu

The large number of Russian tourists in Bali seems to have made it necessary for Russian government representatives to set up an office there. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that he would open an office of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Denpasar, Bali.

The Russian Embassy in Indonesia announced via social media on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

“Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin signed the Government Regulation on the opening of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation office in Denpasar,” read the announcement on the @rusemb_indonesia Instagram account.

According to the post, the budget allocation provided to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be used to open the Russian Consulate General’s office in Bali.

Actually, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, revealed some time ago the plan to open a Russian Consulate General office in Bali. According to Sandiaga, Russian tourist visits to Bali continue to increase.

“We work a lot with the City of Moscow and Russia itself. Not only in the tourism aspect but also in the creative and digital economy,” Sandiaga said at the Bali Tourism Polytechnic on May 16, 2024.

Even so, Sandiaga did not deny that there was much news that Russian tourists in Bali often acted up. But he said Russian tourists would not be threatened if they followed the rules.

Viral New Moscow on Bali Canggu Map

In May 2024, a viral name, New Moscow, replaced the Canggu area on Google Maps. Viral New Moscow in Bali that appears on the map horrifies many people, and it turns out that this is also troubling local residents.

Many people consider New Moscow to be a Russian tourist village that opens various businesses in an area of about 9 hectares.

While this may seem reasonable, what is troubling is that many of the businesses are owned by foreign tourists working on tourist visas.

New Moscow itself came about because the people who live in this area are mainly from Russia and Ukraine. The number has increased since the outbreak of war between the two countries.
