When Friendly Intentions Lead to Misunderstanding: Foreign Passengers and the Online Motorcycle Driver

Share:

Online motorcycle or Ojek Online is one of the practical transportation options and is not only used by Indonesians but also foreigners. In some places, such as Bali and Jakarta, it is common to find foreigners or foreign tourists using online motorcycle driver services.

These foreign tourists, in turn, also feel greatly helped by online motorcycle taxis. It is not uncommon for them to express their gratitude through gifts, tips, or other friendly actions, creating a mutually beneficial relationship with the drivers.

Some time ago, there was a trend of Hugging Your Gojek Driver in Bali, which was followed by many foreign tourists. Now, there is a funny viral video that seems to show gratitude to motorcycle taxi drivers.

Through the @buleturk account, a Turkish foreigner uploaded a video titled “Don’t Forget to Show Love for Grab Drivers.”

The video shows the foreigner hugging an online motorcycle taxi driver. His action still gets a good response because the driver smiles, too.

But suddenly, the stranger takes it to the next level of intimacy by trying to kiss the driver’s cheek, which the driver immediately shuns while getting angry.

“Kenapa marah marah 🥺 aku sedih😢” or “Why angry 🥺 I’m sad😢.” wrote the caption in the video.

Although it was clearly a skit comedy video, some of the video comments were quite interesting.

“The grab driver traumatized,” wrote one netizen.

‘Instantly resign from grab,” wrote another.

In the comments, the foreigner sets the record straight by writing that the online motorcycle driver in the video is his friend and that the video’s content is a joke.

The video has gone viral with over 6 million views and thousands of comments.
